Michael Leboe, LCSW
About Michael Leboe, LCSW
Michael graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor’s in Arts. He later completed a Master of Social Work from Barry University.
Michael Leboe joined Mindful Behavioral Health (MBH) in January of 2014 as the clinic’s first Psychotherapist. Michael has been with MBH for 4 years & provides psychotherapy for many of the patients who are receiving medication management from any of the psychiatrist’s in our clinic.
Prior to joining MBH, Michael served as a Commissioned Officer of the United States Public Health Service for 11 years as well as providing direct patient care at psychiatric crisis units across Broward County.
While Michael was on active duty, he served in a variety of clinical mental health positions and assignments, where he provided direct mental health care & services as well as fulfilling multiple administrative assignments to work on national public health problems. Part of being a Commissioned Officer required Michael to be part of the Federal Emergency Response Team that deployed officers to Nationally Declared Public Health Emergencies. Teams were deployed to various response zones where Michael provided crisis clinical mental health counseling directly in the field of where the disaster took place; helping identify patients who needed urgent mental health care as well as obtaining basic daily living items such as food, water, & shelter.
On active duty, Michael reports that there are two specific achievements that stand out as life long memories of his career in the service. The first accomplishment was when Michael received personnel orders that he was selected to serve in the Office of the Surgeon General. Michael was selected to serve as a Program Officer, where he was charged to implement the Office of the Civilian Medical Reserve Corps response efforts to participate in national declared Federal disaster areas, and be part of the rapid deployment teams. At the same time, Michael was an Aide de Camp to the Surgeon General on a variety of occasions. Michael shares that he has fond memories of spending time with the Surgeon General of the United States talking about national public health problems that are affecting our county. At this point in his career he worked with many Admirals across the U.S. Public Health Service as well as various Generals and Admirals from the U.S. Army, Navy, and Airforce. Michael states this was exposed to politics at the highest level he ever partook, but realized his heart and soul remains working directly with the patients who need mental health therapy.
After separating from the uniformed services, Michael decided to move back home to be with his family in Fort Lauderdale. He met Dr. Chicowicz at Delray Medical Center & the partnership to provide mental health treatment at MBH began shortly thereafter.
Michael’s primary responsibilities at MBH is to provide individual & family therapy. He does assist some of the psychiatrists in seeing patients initially to complete their initial psychiatric assessment to assist in offering all services that MBH has as well as discuss alternative treatment options.
Outside of work, you can always find Michael spending time with his two puppies, which he says is the “joy of his life.” Michael adopted an American BullDog, Luckas, and a Pit-Bull, Sierra. Michael says you can always find the 3 out in his backyard chasing tennis balls, lizards, and running around with palm leaves.
Michael earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of South Florida in December of 1995, and earned his Master’s of Social Work degree from Barry University in May 2002. He is currently licensed as a Clinical Social Worker with the state of Florida.
